Random...

I'm so ready to go to bed but if I fall asleep I'm going to mess up my toes ...Why did I paint my toes at 1am???...My pedicures don't last long these days....I really think the polish chips off because my tennis shoes when I workout...It seems that I'm doing my toes a couple of times a week these days..I love my OPI polishes

So since I can't sleep I thought I would post a couple of blogs ....

Lately my hair is just so thick...I love it and please don't get me wrong...Its just a lot to deal with lately...You know the saying ..Be careful what you ask for..It takes a little longer to detangle and a little longer to style..A little longer to do everything...I know that I will adjust soon enough I guess....

I have gotten a few emails asking how my hair is doing since I switched back to Lye relaxers after using No Lye...

My hair is doing great...No problems what so ever...I'm good for switching back and forth...But I'm sticking with the Lye for a while..

This last relaxer I didn't relax bone straight like I usually do...I didn't texlaxed but its not bone bone straight like normally..And I like it...I don't think I will go back to relaxing that straight again..I liked having the fullness..

I'm not sure how many weeks post I am and I don't like to count weeks till I'm almost at the date I picked to relax..To me it just drags it out...I do plan to relax on my Husband and I wedding anniversary in the 1st week of Nov...We haven't made plans yet ...But if our plans don't involve water...I may flat iron roots straight instead of relaxing...I don't know ...Will see...It will be a 4-6 month stretch again for sure

Product Review / My Hair & Swimming

Friday evening my Husband & I took the boys to my Mother n Laws to visit and get in the pool...We had a ball in the water...Before getting in the water...I rinsed off in the shower right outside the pool...Rinsed my hair...Then added SE Cholesterol to the length of my hair..And put my dripping wet hair in a bun....

Think of your hair is like a sponge once full it doesn't leave much room to absorb the chlorine
I didn't wear a swimming cap ...But if I was swimming everyday or a few times a week then I would choose to wear one each time...
Immediately after swimming I rinsed my hair in the shower next to the pool...Then shampooed with Ion Swimmers Shampoo and lather twice..
When I rinsed my hair felt so so soft...I love that shampoo...
Next I applied Silk Elements MegaSilk Intense Conditioning Mayonnaise (Protein) to my hair ....

I took a grocery bag (forgot my deep conditioning cap) and tied it around my head and let the conditioner sit on for 40 mins....When I rinsed ..My hair felt amazing...I next rubbed glycerin through my hair ....Next I applied Herbal Essence Long Term Relationship Leave In and my Proclaim Natural 7 Oil...I air dried in two plaits ...

Healthy Hair Tips

Brushing....

Use a natural-bristle brush instead of metallic combs and plastic and nylon brushes.....Do not brush hair too often..Brushing too often causes split ends...

Never brush your hair when it is wet ...Your hair is most vulnerable to split or break....Instead use a wide tooth comb.....I suggest using Jibere Shower Comb ( Sold at Sallys or Walmart)
The brush I use is Hot n Silky Oval Cushion Reinforced Boar Brush ( Sold at Sallys)
Shampooing...

Do not shampoo everyday ...Only shampoo 1x a week..Skip the shampoo...Try rinsing hair in the shower and adding conditioner to hair and gently scrub scalp ( Co-washing)....Then rinse clean

Hair One is a cleansing conditioner that cleans the hair and scalp just like shampoo...Without all the stripping...Perfect if you need to wash everyday or often ( Sold @ Sallys)..

Before shampooing wet hair ...Then run a little conditioner through your hair...Then apply shampoo to hair...This prevents the shampoo from stripping the hair..

Split Ends...

Let go of split ends...There is no way to mend or fix split ends...Trimming is the only way to get rid of them...

In between trims..

Protect your hair from heat by using a leave in conditioner or heat protector...

Deep condition 2x a week
Moisturize your ends nightly
Sleeping on Satin Pillow cases..
Allow hair to dry naturally when ever possible

Avoid heat styling as much a possible (Blow dryers, flat irons, and curling irons)

Dusting your ends between trims will help your trims last longer also....Dusting is just cutting off just the very tips of your hair....You lose no length doing this..

Another way is to take small sections and twist them...The hairs that stick out you just cut them...

Also the search and destroy method is great...That is when you look at your ends and cut only the split ends you find...You want to sit next to a window or outside so that you have good light..

Healthy Lifestyle

Diet

Healthy Diet is key to getting the nutrition that you hair needs....When you not getting proper nutrients and vitamins everything goes to vital organs that need them most and your hair and nails do not get what they need to grow healthy and strong....This can cause dull hair, dry hair that leads to breakage, and even stunt growth...Taking a multi vitamin or hair vitamins help with making sure your body is getting what it needs...

Avoid extreme diets...A disruption in your diet will disrupt hair growth and can cause hair fall..

It has been a scientific proven fact that there is a general connection in ones health and hair

Sleep

Make sure your getting enough sleep ....When the body is deprived of anything necessary for it to function it will shut down all production of unnecessary functions such as growing hair or removing toxins from skin...

Stress

Laugh more...Smile more...Pick your battles....Take a deep breathe...Learn how to meditate and pray....Learn how to manage stress.....Stess causes stress-induced hair loss called telogen effluvium and alopecia areata....Yep hair loss...That job , bad kids, your bills, no good man could be the cause of your hair loss...

Illness can cause hair loss...Medication also causes hair loss

Hair Accessories

Don’t use a elastic bands with the metal piece . Only use all elastic bands ...Don't use metal clips , barrettes or hair combs..They tear hair and cause split ends..

Do not wear too tight updo's...

Chemicals

Stay away from chemicals for the healthiest hair...Relaxers and color damage the hair....Can you have healthy relaxed or colored hair ??? Yes !! But deep conditioning 1x a week alternating between protein and moisturizing conditioners are important..Always keep the hair moisturized...

The less you use chemicals the better..Instead of relaxing 6 or more times a year....Stretch out the time in between your relaxers.. Strive to relax less times a year

Did You Know ????

Applying tomatoes slices, tomato juice or tomato paste to your hair will enhance the natural PH of the hair due to the vitamin C in the vegetables.

Snip ...Snip

Frnt Side Bangs

My Mother n Law took the boys for the whole weekend....So the Hubby and I had much over due alone time ......

Sat. we got up and worked out together at the gym and then went out to eat.....After the gym I deep conditioned with Silk Elements Moisturizing Treatment....Then co washed ...I applied Herbal Essence Long Term Relationship Leave In and Proclaim Natural 7 Oil...I did two french braids ....That dried quickly because of the heat....I wore a cute braid out for the restaurant ..

Later we went dancing and I wanted a totally different look....I plugged up my Fhi Flatiron and flat ironed my hair......

I loved the final result.....My hair turned out so silky and straight....My hair is the healthiest it has ever been.....I'm still amazed at the health and length of my hair...

I was shocked on how good my ends look....I haven't had a trim in so long I can't remember when...I would have to go back in my blog to find out when...But its been a while...Yet my ends are nice and healthy...

There is a but....I miss that fresh trim look...You know when your ends line up straight across , nice and even...I miss the polished look of a fresh cut...

Yep I gave myself a trim....I cut about 1 inch off all the way around...Now I was happy !!!! I was excited....A inch this far into my journey is like losing no length at all..My hair looks and feels great....

I didn't take any pics over the weekend ....But I'm about to take the kids to the park...So here are a couple of pics of my hair....Of course its not that straight anymore since I went dancing...

I'm In Love With Proclaim Natural 7 Oil Olive Oil

I abosuletly love this oil....I have been using it to seal after I moisturize with Vo5 Moisture Milks ....I have mixed it in my conditioners to deep condition, and this weekend I plan on using it to do a hot oil treatment..

Its such a cheap fix...Its very inexpensive $3.99 at Sallys ..$ 3.49 with Sallys Club Card and this month you can buy 2 get 1 free.....

Immediately after I put this on my hair I can feel immediate softness...Oh and when I use this to seal with at night and do my 2 french braids for my braid out....The next morning my braid out is ridiculous...The waves pop like crazy and it gives me such brilliant shine..

Only Negative:

It smells great but its really perfumy smelling .....The fragrance does fade away after a couple of hours ...Thank God

Here are a couple of close shots of my braid out today with Proclaim Natural 7 Oils in my hair...Oh and this braid out was done with 2 french braids on the sides...

Product Review & More

12: 30 am

I walked into the gym tonight/last night (whatever) straight exhausted...But I pushed through my normal two mile run and a hr of weight training....I was so happy to finally get back to the locker room...

Even though I didn't feel like it...I applied Silk Elements MegaSilk Olive Moisturizing Treatment to my hair from root to tip....Jump in the steam room ..Then the sauna ...Then back in the steam room..

Got out then went back in the gym to do my crunches...

When my Husband and I finally got to the car ....I couldn't keep my eyes open...I was knocked out the whole way home..Finally I was home... I jumped in the shower...I just couldn't bring myself to rinse out my deep conditioner and co wash .... So I just threw on a plastic cap and scarf ...I will rinse out after I get some sleep..I guess this will be a overnight conditioning treatment...

So why am I so tired ...Well my allergies is kicking my butt...My sinuses are all jacked up and my arms and chest are covered in red itchy hives...I had a allergic reaction to a new shirt I bought...So I'm taking Benedryl and its keeping me so drowsy ....Sucks big time !!!

In the morning...I will be back with my review on the Silk Elements Olive Moisturizing Treatment...

9:30 am

Well I rinsed out the Silk Elements this morning and was shocked that I didn't like how my hair felt...Unlike the MegaSilk Moisturizing Treatment ...The Olive Oil Treatment contains protein and I could feel that when I rinsed...My hair wasn't hard it actually felt soft ..But it left my hair with so so many tangles....I really should have followed up with a moisturizing treatment but didn't have the time ....

I don't think it was all that bad...But I thought it would be a much lighter protein conditioner..And if I had known before hand I would not have left it in overnight..

I really need to try it again to know if I like it...Maybe next time I will deep condition w/heat 30 mins and follow up with moisture and it should be fine....

Ingredients:

WATER ,CETEARYL ALCOHOL ,CETYL ESTERS ,GLYCERIN ,STEARALKONIUM CHLORIDE ,AMODIMETHICONE ,SODIUM PCA ,CETRIMONIUM CHLORIDE ,TRIDECETH-12 ,HYDROLYZED SILK ,OLEA EUROPAEA (OLIVE) FRUIT OIL ,BEHENTRIMONIUM METHOSULFATE ,FRAGRANCE ,DMDM HYDANTOIN ,IODOPROPYNYL BUTYLCARBAMATE ,YELLOW 5 ,BLUE #1 ,BENZYL BENZOATE ,BENZYL SALICYLATE ,LINALOOL ,BUTYLPHENYL METHYLPROPIONAL ,HEXYL CINNAMAL

I put in my leave in and sealed with Aphogee Gloss Therapy Polisher and braided into two side french braids

Talk about crazy !!!!!!

After I did my two french braids ...I made a run to Walmart for my Mother....Well while I was in the store ...There was a African American Lady that was about 6ft tall and she was staring at me...She was not only tall but was a naturally big woman...If I had to guess she was in her mid 40's...

Anyways there she was staring at me...Then she gives the biggest prettiest smile....I smiled back and continued my shopping...

Well I was rushing because I had my Mom outside in the truck ...Right when I opened the truck door and had one leg in the truck...I feel someone yanking one of my braids....I stepped out of the truck and turned around all in one motion....And I look at this woman from earlier dead smack in her face...

I say... I know you didn't just pull my hair...She grabs my braid again now rubbing it and says your hair is so beautiful I just had to touch it to see if it is real....Then she gives that big smile again...I stayed polite even though I was pissed and said thank you..I got in the car and shut the door and drove off...While she was giving the whole don't you ever cut your hair speech..

My Mom bust out laughing...I'm like what is so dang funny ...And Mom goes...I bet you would have had a lot more to say if she wasn't 7ft tall....Even I had to laugh...

Just please don't touch my hair

Like A Duck To Water

The heat has been draining everything out of me....I swear every summer I drink so so much water...Seems as though I just stay thirsty...Oh and between the heat and working out ...I stay in the shower bathing and co washing....Even when co washing I can't resist deep conditioning 2 or 3 times a week...

I go through this every summer...But for some reason I stay thinner in the summer and I get so much extra growth during this time also....Its because of all the water that I consume because of the summer heat...

So I thought I would share a few (theres way more) beauty benefits of drinking plenty of water ...

Water for the hair...

Water makes up approximately one fourth of the weight of a strand of hair ...Drinking enough water will give you soft, naturally shiny hair...Becoming dehydrated or not consuming enough water will cause dull, dry and brittle hair that will result in breakage..

Hard Water
Washing with hard water can be bad for your hair...The Chlorine, minerals and fluoride in the water causes dry hair , breakage and spit ends...

If you have hard water you can buy shampoos designed to counteract the hard water...Example Ion Hard Water Shampoo sold at Sally is a good one..Redken Cleansing Creme (Chelating Shampoo) is a good one too ..Also you can purchase water filters for your shower that start at about $ 30 and up

Water for the body

Drinking plenty of water keeps bloating away, increases energy , keeps your eyes bright and white, and keeps your skin clear..

Drinking water flushes out gross toxins, improves circulation and blood flow..Carries nutrients to your cells and keeps your joints lubricated..

You need to drink water to carrying waste and toxin materials out of your body....Not drinking enough water can cause toxins to build up and cause skin break outs...Drinking plenty of water keeps the skins moisture level even and pores clean...

Kidneys cannot function properly without enough water. When they do not work to capacity, toxins and waste is dumped into your liver.

Water suppresses the appetite naturally and helps the body metabolize stored fat...

How Do I know If I'm drinking enough water ???
Normally you can tell by the color of your urine...Your urine should be clearer in color...Pale yellow or darker means you need more water...
8 to 10 glasses of water a day usually does the trick...

What Is Cholesterol Conditioner ????

I promised I would explain what cholesterol conditioner exactly is...First let me say that this is something that you do not have to have in your hair regimen...But if your hair is damaged from sun, over processing, color..Cholesterol maybe what you need..

Hair cholesterol is meant to repair and put back moisture into dehydrated, damaged hair. It treats dry, damaged ,and brittle hair....Increases strength, softness, shine!

Yes cholesterol conditioners contain protein ..But usually so far down the list that most people do not consider it a protein conditioner...

So why is cholesterol good for the hair ??? Well kinda similar to the reason why our body needs good cholesterol ..

Cholesterol contains lipoproteins which is a combination of lipids (fats) and proteins.. Lipoproteins carry cholesterol and other lipids like triglycerides, and other substances through the bloodstream to the cells that need them..

So what does this have to do with hair ???

Well we have learned so far cholesterol contains lipids....

Your hair consist of the following:

Hair Lipids

Hair Pigments

Protein

Water

Hair lipids is made up of fatty acid, phytosphingosine, ceramide, cholesterol and cholesterol sulfate...Hair shaft lipids provide shine to the hair .....

Damage of hair lipids makes the hair dull , dry, and brittle. Hair lipids are damaged from over processing, chemicals, heat styling, and sun...

Normal healthy lipids coat the hair shaft , gives shine and smoothness to the hair fiber... Hair that lacks healthy lipids appears frizzy and is acceptable to fractures in the shaft...

I hope this helps....I did my best to make it as simple as possible.... In a nutshell cholesterol contain lipids that the hair needs if damaged.....

Loving My Braid-Out !!!!!

I did my braid out different this time and loved the results....I usually do it on wet hair and air dry in the braids...But this time I was running late from the gym and my Sister was on her way to pick me up to go shopping for dresses

I got home cleaned my hair in the shower with Hair One ...Then conditioned with Vo5 Moisture Milks as a quick rinse out conditioner....Jumped out the shower and wrapped a towel around my hair for a few minutes to absorb some of the water...Removed the towel then applied Herbal Essence Long Term Relationship Leave In Conditioner and Aphogee Gloss Therapy Polisher....Combed all that through my hair then sat under the dryer with my hair hanging loose for about 2omins....My hair was about 90% dry....Next I sectioned my hair then applied Silk Elements Designing Mousse and braided...Added a small silk roller to the ends of each braid for a shorter looking braid out....Got back under the dryer for 15mins with the braids...
.
I left the braids in while I threw on some jeans and a tank ( Its Hot Today)....Did my make up .....When I finished dressing I undid each braid and was amazed...

I don't know if the pictures really show it but my hair was so much bouncier , it had so much body..It was a lot softer and more natural looking ...I loved the results.... I know I'm late but I had never did a braid out on dry hair before....

Just wanted to share in my joy...Hahahahaha

Oh Yay...My summer tan is here....I love it...Shea Butter gives me such a even tan in the summer....

My Ramblings

I finally undid my bun after working out on Thursday ....Yep the same bun from Sunday...I really didn't mean to leave it in that long but I had a busy couple of days.....When I say I love Burt's Bees Avocado Butter Pre Shampoo Treatment...I love it....I didn't my bun down at all since Sunday..Not to moisturize..Not for anything..But when I took it down on Thursday it was like BUTTER baby....

If you haven't tried Burt's Bees Avocado Butter Pre Shampoo Hair Treatment..PLEASE , PLEASE give it a try...Your hair will thank you....

Work Out Hair

I get countless emails asking what I do with my hair post work out....

Well I have actually switched things up a bit...I used to co-wash especially during the summer 4 to 5 times a week...Now I rotate just rinsing hair and scalp or co-washing...So if I co wash Monday...I just rinse Tuesday ... On Wed. co wash again ....I got tired of running back and forth to the store for conditioner...

I still do my Mid week deep conditioning and my deep conditioning on the weekend...
I work out most of the time in a high ...Buns are great too...

Castor Oil Dumped

As all of you know I got awesome growth and thickness on the Castor Oil Challenge...But I have to say its getting dumped for the time being...Its just so so hot....Way to hot to be coating my scalp with oil...I will start back in Nov. when it cools off

Switching Up My Moisturizer

Lately I have been using V05 Moisture Milks Conditioner as a moisturizer daily... Its light.. Way thinner than most moisturizers...So its perfect for summer and it smells great.....Then sealing with Aphogee Gloss Therapy Polisher or Avocado Oil....I like the Gloss Therapy because its also contains UV Protectant and its not heavy...

Burt's Bees To The Rescue

In a little over a week time span ...I added color to my hair and blow dried my hair on the fourth..So my tresses have received a little of abuse...I thought I would give my hair a break and a treat...

After my workout on Sunday....I went in the locker room and jumped in the shower there and rinsed my hair and scalp...Lighty Towel dried...And applied Burt's Bees Avocado Butter Pre-Shampoo Hair Treatment....I love this stuff...Best thing about this stuff is that the longer you leave it in the better....It takes pre pooing to a whole other level...I applied the Burt's Bees in small sections from root to tip ..Then brushed my hair in a bun ...Covered with a scarf and jumped into the steam room ....When I got out the steam room I had a nice neat , and slick bun.... Its Monday night and I'm still wearing that same bun...After my workout tomorrow...I rinse finally and co-wash...

Fourth Of July Look

I went with bantu knots for the day...Before I post pics and someone ask me where are the bantu knots..HAhahahaha...These are the results after removing the bantu knots....

I deep conditioned over night with Silk Elements Mega Silk Moisturizing Treatment...Next morning rinsed and washed hair with Hair One...I applied Herbal Essence Long Term Relationship Leave In and Aphogee Gloss Therapy and air dried 90%...Ran the blow drier to my roots...

After my hair was completely dry ...I used Silk Elements Designing Silk Mousse for the first time and loved it..I applied the mousse to each section before twisting and putting hair in the knot...

Left in bantu knots in for a couple hours while I got myself and the kids dressed....After I removed the knots and seperated my curls I spritzed my hair with Silk Elements Mega Silk Holding Spritz

Silk Elements Reviews Part II ( Pic Heavy)

Monday I decided to color my hair....What I did was color just my bang area to create a two-tone look...I get the color with out damaging all of my hair...Worse case scenario I will end up cutting full bangs ( I doubt that happens)...I know I took the easy way out..But whatever I'm happy ....I went with something soft.. Here are a few pics..

This is my hair today in a braid-out (I'm on my way to the gym)....

Now I did use a permanent color even though I'm relaxed.....Something that I would never , never , never suggest someone else to do..I can get away with it because I only colored a very , very small section...Basically only my bang area...If relaxed you should stay with Semi Permanent Color or Temp Rinses..

I used Silk Elements MegaSilk Hair Color System Cinnamon Brown...I followed the directions on the package...After rinsing that section it was left extremely soft..I loved the softness and the richness of the brown...
