Reasons To Start Co-washing...

What is Co-washing ?

Co-wash is a way to clean the hair with out using shampoo.....I co-wash by rinsing my hair in the shower...Then applying Conditioner to scalp and hair..And gently rub scalp as if I were using shampoo...I rinse thoroughly then add more conditioner and let it sit on my hair while I shower...When done showering I rinse hair thoroughly and get out the shower ..That's it...I have two favorite conditioners for co-washes Vo5 and Aussie Moist and I use Victoria Secret So Sexy for special occasions....
I co-wash about 2 to 3 times a week

Why I love to Co-wash...

  • Keeps my hair moisturized

  • Keeps my scalp clean

  • I can clean my hair all week without drying out my hair

  • Helps me retain my growth by keeping hair moisturized

  • Feels wonderful in this heat

Ready for the best part...My hair always.... always smells wonderful...My Hubby is constantly smelling my hair when he thinks I'm sleeping...lol

If I really want to get to him ....I use Victoria Secret So Sexy Shampoo and Conditioner works every time..and I even get compliments from complete strangers...It smells heavenly...

Air Drying Tips !!!!!

I'm so overwhelmed right now with emails..... All wanting to know how to air dry b/c of my last video..... ( My First Caruso Set)

Let me first say when air drying ....It tells the truth about the condition of your hair...Heat lays the hair shaft down and provides shine and can miss-lead you to think your hair is healthier than it really is....

Products used for air drying is very important

Deep Conditioning your hair at least 1x a week

Moisturizing and applying oil every night....

In the last video I used Redken Smooth Down Butter Treat for air drying.....

Note: I only use Redken Butter Treat when doing heat styles

For the video I air dried with Butter Treat and Coconut Oil...

Prior to the start of the video I prepooed with heating cap for 35 mins with Kenra Moisturizing Conditioner and Coconut Oil....Next I rinsed and shampooed with Kenra Moisturizing Shampoo..and then I applied Nexxus Humetress Conditioner for 10 mins and rinsed ... Last I applied my Redken and Coconut Oil and air dried...

Tip #1 ....Make sure hair has been conditioned well

Tip #2 .....Use a Leave-in Conditioner, and Oil ( I suggest Coconut , Avocado , or Grape seed Oil)

Tip #3....Air dry in braided plaits with rollers at the ends ( silk rollers, flex-rods, Perm rods ).....For the Caruso Set I air dried hanging loose...I only air dry hanging loose if I'm going to flat-iron or where a straighter style....

Tip #4 ...Never air dry with protein conditioners

My Air drying Leave-ins Conditioners :

Nexxus Weightless Leave-in

Redken Smooth Down Butter Treat ( for heat styles)

Vo5 Milk Moisturizing Conditioner ( Yes you can use regular conditioner as a leave-in as long as its not a protein conditioner...

Herbal Essence Long Term Relationship Leave-in

I always apply oil after I apply my leave-in when air drying...Most of the time Coconut Oil or Avocado Oil...

Here Is My Air Drying Technique.....

Flaws and All

So when I first heard this song some time ago I loved it ..Because of what it was saying.... I remember when my Husband and I first met and we were dating.....I was always on point... Hair and make-up had to be just right ... I had to smell and dress my best.... And he loved it and told me consistently how pretty I was...

But after you get married you find out if it is love or infatuation .....When he can still look at you in the morning with your hair all over your head and with morning breath.... still KISS you good morning...When he walks in the door and you have on sweats because you have been cleaning and he still tells you how sexy you are....Its love...

When he tolerates and learns your different moods.... This man has washed me up and taken me to the restroom and wiped my behind ....When I had surgery and I was too sick and in pain to do it myself... God ...I love this man !!!

But I love him because after he's seen me at my worst and learned all my annoying habits ...He loves me just the same if not more... I know what your thinking ....I'm sprung....Yeah your right ...I am....lol

Stocked Up On My Deep Conditioners ....I'm Finally Done

....So I went to buy my Deep Conditioners like I said... The beauty shop was out of the large bottles of Kenra...So I ordered it....So I bought a small bottle of the conditioner and the shampoo....I got a large bottle of Nexus Humectress (My long time favorite) ...To use until my order comes in...

So I don't know if you heard but RedKen came out with a line called Real Control and the woman at the shop gave me samples to try out the conditioner and the shampoo. I will try it out and next week and give a review..

So I'm done with my conditioner shopping...I like to stock up so I'm not running back and forth to the store...So the pre-poo conditioners and my deep conditioners I bought yesterday and today should last me a few months....

My Men and I Having Fun On The 4th

video

My Husband, the boys, and I drove down to San Diego and had a ball....We took the kids to Sea World and hung out and saw the Firework Show there.... And stayed the night up there...We had so much fun....I'm going to have to step up my work-out game next week..I was doing big eating all weekend.....LOL

How I Protect My Skin And Hair.....

How I Protect my Hair and Skin when I'm out in the sun.....Let just first say it was so so Hot on the 4th at Sea World....We are trying to watch the shows and walk around and sweat is just running down our faces and back...A few years ago went to Sea World and I got sun burn really bad....Who ever said black people do not get sun burn lied..lol...So the trips after that....I go prepared....

First I cover my body and the kids body with Sun Block ....Everything except for the our faces...I always us Sun Block that is at least 50SPF or more...This is the one I used this weekend...I like it...It wasn't real thick and it as very moisturizing.....

Photobucket

Next I do my face.....I like you using Sun Block designed for face because it usually has a higher SPF .....I do my face and neck before putting on a little make-up ( too hot for a whole lot of make-up)...I do the same with the boys...This time I bought Aveeno Face 70SPF and its the best so far...

Photobucket

I used Avocado Oil as a sun block for my hair...In tests, avocado oil proved to be a more effective sunscreen than jojoba, coconut, olive, sesame, and almond oils....

I threw on my Sun Hat for shade and extra protection ....I usually throw on some shades but my new glasses darken in the sun and lighten up when in side...

Yes .....Oils Can Pentrate Hair Shaft

So there was the big , huge debate on LHCF about Oils being able to penetrate shaft/ condition or nourish the hair....Some women really believed the only things oils do is seal in moisture....It really showed how are sistas are still so uneducated about our hair care

It has been scientifically proven that some oils can penetrate example:

Coconut oil, being a triglyceride of lauric acid (principal fatty acid), has a high affinity for hair proteins and, because of its low molecular weight and straight linear chain, is able to penetrate inside the hair shaft.

Mineral oil, being a hydrocarbon, has no affinity for proteins and therefore is not able to penetrate and yield better results. In the case of sunflower oil, although it is a triglyceride of linoleic acid, because of its bulky structure due to the presence of double bonds, it does not penetrate the fiber, consequently resulting in no favorable impact on protein loss.

The main purpose of oiling the hair is to help it retain moisture,

Studies have proven that ...

Coconut Oil, Avocado Oil, Olive oil penetrate the hair shaft to make it stronger (J. Cosmet.Sci 52, 169-184, 2001)The study showed straight chain glyceride's like coconut oil , avocado oil, olive oil easily penetrate into the hair.

Polyunsaturated oils , like Jojoba oil, are more open in their structure so they don’t pass through the layers of cuticles very well.

Meadow foam seed oil partially penetrates, and jojoba and sunflower oils don’t penetrate at all. Most other oils, including safflower oil and sunflower oil, do not penetrate hair very well.

So yes !!! There are oils scientifically proven to penetrate the hair shaft.....You must read Ladies...You must educate yourself...Before picking oils for your regimen 'Google it'...find as much info on it as you can and make sure that is what you and your hair needs....

Most Info provided through study (J. Cosmet.Sci 52, 169-184, 2001)
